Each month we will bring you an interview with a band or artist who we have worked with as part of a Globe project.
This month, Aardman's latest animation Early Man is released in Cinemas worldwide. Globe Soundtrack and Score curated and released the soundtrack featuring boy band New Hope Club, who's music video was also directed and produced by Globe Productions.
James Gilmore from Wzrd radio interview the band for Globe's first In the Spotlight feature, brand new for 2018!
NEW HOPE CLUB
Q1. 2017 was a big year for the band, what’s the last year been like for you guys?
Recce: It’s been a whirlwind of a year, we’ve seen places that we never even thought of going to. We’ve released new music, had a Christmas song out and it’s been pretty non-stop
Blake: We’ve not been home
Reece: Hopefully this year’s going to be even busier! It’s started off well
Q2. What did you think of the Early Man film?
Reece: We loved it, absolutely loved it
Blake: It’s incredible yeah. Well our song was in it, so..! The whole film was incredible and when our song came on in the film we were all like “This is ridiculous!” It was in it for a long time as well, and they were dancing to the song in the film so it was just an amazing experience.
Q3. You actually have two songs in the film, so how did you initially get involved in the project?
Reece: Well we got approached by Aardman and we instantly just said yes obviously, we’ve been fans of all Aardman films like Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep and Wallace and Gromit and it’s insane to be a part of the next film and we couldn’t believe that they wanted us to do two songs.
Blake: And Tiger Feet, the cover, is such a legendary song, all parents love that song so to be doing it in a film is great.
Q4. You worked with Brad from The Vamps on the music, obviously you know The Vamps very well and you’ve toured with them but tell me what it was like working with Brad in a producing capacity?
Reece: We’ve done it before, he produced our Christmas song. He’s just a nice guy, we’re obviously very good friends with him though management and stuff like that and they took us on tour. We love working with Brad because we feel comfortable, any ideas that we have we can just put them forward and it took us like two days to get four songs done which is really good.
Q5. So I’ve got a game. One of your songs is called Good Day and the game is kind of like an Either/Or situation but at various points during the day, so what would make up a good day.
1 – You wake up in the morning, is it toast or a cereal situation for breakfast?
Blake: None, I don’t do breakfast!
2- You get dressed, do you put on your top first or trousers first?
George and Blake in union: Trousers
3- Right music, you’re going out. Do you put on Spotify or Apple Music?
4- Fast forward, it’s lunchtime. Hot food or cold food?
Blake: Ooh I don’t know, maybe like a panini…a warm sandwich
George: Yeah, hot
5- What’s a better afternoon for the band: Tour rehearsals or a recording session?
All: Tour rehearsals! 100%
Reece: You can do what you want in tour rehearsals
George: Also you know that you’re going on tour so then you’re well happy about that
6 – Then the evening, night out or night in?
Reece: Night out
Blake: Night in
George: Oooof, night…out, probably
Blake: Not like a night out out, but it’s nice to go out for food but I’d rather just stay in
Q6. Talking about touring, you also toured with Sabrina Carpenter, what was that like?
George: We was in the US for like ten weeks and eight weeks of that was touring and we was on a massive green bus called Dorothy, we gave it that name…
Reece: We did two tours with Sabrina back-to-back so we knew her quite well by the end. We were very good friends, we used to go for food and stuff like that and we still keep in contact now so it’s cool.
Q7. I’ve got a couple more questions, firstly what can we expect from the band this year?
Blake: Well, lots of new music is definitely going to be coming out. We’re going to do some tours, some of our own shows and we are very excited to do stuff we’ve never done before so hopefully people will enjoy it.
Q8. My final question for you, in three words total, so one word each, why should people a) See Early Man?
And then b) Why should people listen to your music on the soundtrack?
